What are the best setting to use to export a quicktime (video and audio) from Symphony (win2000) that I can then FTP to an audio post facility for them to import in to ProTools (not 100% sure which version, but pretty up-to-date i reckon) to use as a guide for the VO record?

They’re not matching sync or anything, so the picture quality doesn’t have to be great, but what compression, frame size and rate should I use to give them something usable, but which isn’t going to take an age to upload to an FTP server and download at the other end?

We’re currently couriering tapes around the country from our offline suite to an audio facility for them to record VO (lo-res pictures and split audio tracks – Comm on one, M&E on the other). It’s a bit of a pain and we are at the mercy of the couriers which is never a good idea when you have a deadline!

    Thanks for your help.

Their facilities manager couldn’t tell me, and the engineers were all busy so I thought I’d do some sleuthing myself.

What file sizes do you end up with for a half hour programme using the compression you suggest?

Sorry…I dunno. Always had assistants do that.

    I will inquire.
