Would anyone know why I am having trouble with bringing footage into avaid. I have a mac g5 and dv xpress. The system quits as soon as I trun on the deck I use. I have tried dv cam decks and cameras, but it still shuts off when they are connected, and the program will not come up at all when they are connected at the start. I though it might be a security update but I have been having problems with it despite wiping out the OS and starting fresh.

When you say the system quits, are you saying your G5 shuts down?

There is a known problem with failing firewire ports on some G5 Macs and this may be the cause.

The quickest and probably cheapest option is to by a firewire card to install in your Mac.

Try re-installing QuickTime. From what I’ve read this may help.

    Hey,
that worked. i ended up going to the mac store and the genius there figued out that
if avid and final cut wouldn’t work but the imovie did that it was the quicktime
since imovie is the only one that doesn’t use quicktime. he went into receipts
file and dumped the quictime updates and reinstalled it. the most current quicktime
does not have the problems with import/capturing.
    thanks!
