    Hi,

I’m working on a 24p Varicam HD feature that was downconverted to DVCAM and edited in Xpress Pro 4.6 30i project. We are going to online on an Avid Nitris using a 24p project. We have been told not to start audio (dialogue editing/mixing) until we have actually onlined, since there will be some sync issues resulting from going from 30i to 24p. Has anyone done anything similar? I’ve seen the 24p.com website info, but I am curious to find out if we are on the right track for doing audio last? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Shane

The real reason (most likely) is that a 30i project cannot create change lists for the audio post if changes are made. Working in a 24p project has the advantage of generating picture change lists to allow downstream processes to track those changes and update audio as needed. This is perhaps what they are referring to as “sync”. Changes cannot generated between 30i to 24 because the +/- 1 frame adjustments would ripple each time being a nightmare…

So in this scenario, truly locking picture will be a huge time saver (and assure sync).
