Two questions concerning XPress Pro 4.6:

    1) When I adjust the Input Gain in the Audio Project Settings, it does not alter the audio levels of the sources I am capturing from. Why is this?

    2) Is there a way to capture directly from a video camera or VHS/DVD player connected to my video deck’s input? Every time I try, Avid tells me that no source tape has been chosen. Working in Final Cut Pro, they have an option of doing so by selecting Non-Controllable Device. I certainly hope that Avid has an equivalent.

    Thanks.

    1) Control over external audio is done via an external mixer.
    2) Turn off the deck icon and the TC track at the top of the capture window. This allows capture on the fly. You may still need a tape name, click the TAPE field and enter a name. The system will use the computer time (time of day) as the timecode.

Thanks Michael. I am still unclear about the Input Gain slider in Audio Project settings. What I really wish to do is to control the levels for which audio is captured (rather than fix it later using Audio Mix). If this slider does not control this, what function does it serve?
