    Hey guys,

Several years ago I did a lot of editing on the Avid. I worked on it daily for several years. We had a Media Composer 1000 that had been upgraded to the point where it held all of the bells and whisles available at the time. Burn out and some legal issues where I worked caused me to take a vacation for a bit. Lately I have been producing a few things and engaged in creating my own productions. I will start by doing a lot of the editing myself. My question, I was once well versed in the Avid interface and making it hop and I stil remember a lot of it very well, Can I sit down and work my way through it or have there been enough changes that I will basically be starting over. If it will be like starting over then I will take a closer look at different options. If I can get back up to speed in a reasonable amount of time I will stick with what I know.

    Thanks for listening,

    Kyle

For the most part the interface has remained the same with the bulk of the editing tools in the same place you will expect to find them. Additional features are certainly available but easily accessible.

The additional features are dealing with codecs and formats we as moving from a dedicated hardware pipeline to a hybrid version that takes advantage of the host processing coupled with added power when adding the hardware.

For the most part, you will be able to pick up where you left off.

    Thank you Michael,

I figured the interface would mostly be the same, but I thought gradual changes over the years might have added up to a big difference for me now. It got where I could fly in with my new footage, get it cut, added into the show, get the show out to tape (in the middle of the night most often), and then drive it to the air cargo terminal to get it off to replace the one airing, all in my sleep, lol.

    Thanks for the help

I found the changes from Meridian to Adrenaline systems made the interface a bit clunky personally. All the tools are there.. but the addition of modes slowed me down at first. I’m managed to get back up to speed but it takes a few extra buttons to make some stuff happen.

    Just my .02…

Which new modes are you referring to?

They aren’t “new exactly… it’s just a different way to do stuff. For example, having to go into Effect Mode to work with the effect editor. Technically you can open the effect editor from the Tools menu it doesn’t stay open. I’ve mapped Source/Record editing, Trim Mode, Effect Mode, and Color Correction mode to the keyboard so at least it’s just one button to move between them.
