  • isolating media files for a single project for backup

Is there a way to isolate the media files for one specific project within Avid when I have multiple projects on the same machine? I have like six projects on a Media Composer Adrenaline, but I only want to back up and transfer the media for one project to another system. It’s impossible to distinguish what’s what in the mdeia file folders. Is this possible either through Avid or with some other program that exists? Thanks in advance.

If you are planning on doing this a lot, you might want to consider purchasing MediaMover:

OK, this may be a dumb question, so forgive my ignorance…
I looked at the Media mover site, and everything I saw mentioned compatability with Meridien based systems. I work on a Media Composer Adrenaline, and it was my understanding that the Adrenaline replaced the Meridien board. Will Media Mover still work with an Adrenaline based system? Also, although I am going to download the trial version of Media Mover and check it out (if it is in fact compatable with my system),…is it at all possible to back-up media for a specific project without using additional software? Thanks– and thanks for your advice Michael.

MediaMover will work with Adrenaline as long as the media was captured as OMF and not MXF.

As far as doing it without a third party application, it is more of a hunt and peck operation and not easy to do.

When I work with several projects, I only work with one active OMFI MediaFile folder at a time. So before I start a project, I take the existing OMFI folder and rename it to the project name. Then the new project will be added to the OMFI Folder. WHen I need to switch, I change the name of the OMFI folder to the project name, and change the name of the folder project name back to OMFI MediaFiles.

Archaic, I know, but it works.

Thanks dude, it has never occurred to me to do that. You know, life would be so much easier if there was a save as, export, or a similar function in the media tool; but I suppose there’s some reason why there isn’t. Thanks for your help, I’m going to d’load media mover today and check it out. And if that doesn’t work, I’m going to try your folder management method. Thanks again– Travis

One caveat – I don’t believe Media Mover will work in a Unity environment, so it might or might not be something to ponder. Does anyone know if Random will ever figure out a way to get MM to work in a network storage situation?

OK, humor me, por favor– what is a Unity environment?
