I need some quick advise. I do not use avid much but another department that I am teaching after effects in does. Last year I showed a group and I thought Avid took avi files with alphas. I need to bring in a simple super designed in AE CS3 with Alpha intact. I see Avid takes quicktime which is great but even when I put invert in the effects editor it doesn’t work right. How do you get a composite from AE into Avid? I also tried a PNG sequence but Avid does not seem be able to bring the sequence in.. Any suggestions.

If you are creating the file in AE, you could render with the Avid codec and then you would import straight into the Avid. If not, you would invert the alpha. And yes, it does work with most types of QT.

Avid will also import a PNG sequence. Select the first file of the sequence and then in the options box, choose “Autodetect Sequentially-Numbered files”. Again, you will need to choose to invert the alpha.

    Hope that helps.

Avid codecs do not support Alpha.

So, set up your AE to Render out to Animation with Alpha, then in Avid set the Import options to Invert Existing and RGB color space.
