  Which project preset should I use for 23.98 SD downconverted from HD?

  Hi guys,

  We’ve been given a bunch of HDCAM tapes containing 1080p23.98 footage. We know that theoretically we should be able to use our Avid to create an SD offline by hooking up an HDCAM VTR and using its downconversion capability to capture the footage as SD 23.98.

  This is probably a really stupid question, but are we correct in thinking that we should use the “NTSC 23.98” project preset in Avid for this? We’re in PAL-land, but there’s no “PAL 23.98” preset, and it just seems “wrong” to be selecting an NTSC preset.

  There’s a preset for PAL 24P, but that would be wrong – wouldn’t it? Or would it?

  It’s all very confusing…

  Actually, scrub that. I’ve read the manual for the HDW-1800 and it says that it will not downconvert if the source footage is 23.98.

  Anyone have any ideas how we do an SD offline of 1080p23.98 footage for later HD conforming?
