  Letterboxing a dip-to-color transition.

  OK, I know that I am probably missing something obvious here. I am trying to use a Blend dip-to-color transition between two clips in a letterboxed project. I want to know how to keep the dip-to-color letterboxed as well so it doesn’t spill over the black letterboxing. I tried the Reformat-Letterbox effect, but it won’t let me apply it to the dissolve. Any ideas?

  Try putting the letter box above the transition.

  Oops! I’m sorry. What I meant was that both clips were captured in letterbox. Is there a way to apply a letterboxing to just the affect?

  Add the transition you want.

  Create a second video track, and add edits *exactly* where the transition begins and ends on the first track.

  Drag a letterbox effect (or mask, depending the the shape of your letterbox – I believe you can adjust the mask more precisely) onto your second video track, directly over your transition.

  That should do it…
