VISTA and AVID
Last year I bought a new PC and was expecting Windows XP, the company said they ran out and only had VISTA left. I asked if it could run AVID for that was my reason for buying a more powerful system and they had said yes. Unfortunately when I had then tried to install AVID all the minor programs loaded except for AVID Media Composer, saying it was uncompatable. Will this ever be fixed or am I stuck with the wrong system due to a company just trying to sell me a computer? Thanks in advance!!!

What version of Avid are you trying to run, and what version of Vista do you have?
To run Vista, you need at least Media Composer 3.0. Any previous version won’t run. Regarding Vista, you need Vista Business 32 or 64 bit. Anything else and you’ll likely have problems.
Also, who sold you this computer? Was it an Avid reseller? If so, call them and tell them to fix it–they lied to you. If it was a box store–they’re idiots and don’t know the first thing about editing systems, and you unfortunately got burned by it.

…AND to add insult to injury, when you do get the correct OS and MC version, you’ll find Sorenson isn’t (AFAIK at this point) certified to run on Vista. Take a big magnet to your computer and install XP…

Thanks for the heads up. Yea it was a run of the mill computer company who built and sold me the computer, but you said that a certain type of AVID would work with VISTA? Also, is it possible to TRY and install Windows XP on my system or am I stuck with an uncompatable system? Thanks alot for your help!!!! This is the last time I rely on computer “experts,” next time I’ll build the computer myself!! 🙂

Thanks for your advice, I’m looking into a VISTA upgrade and see if that works with the AVID I have.
