Can Avid Express Pro capture a camera source live as the camera is recording via firewire and still capture the timecode from the camera. I’m having trouble doing this as it seems so simple.
I’m using Avid XPMojo 5.5 and a DSR 500 Sony camera.

    Thanks in advance.

The firewire will capture whatever is sent down the ‘pipe’. It works on a deck – are you sure the camera is actually sending the TC signal via firewire? Maybe a camera setting?

Of course, the TC button needs to be enabled in the capture tool…

The camera can send video and timecode to a Firestore hard drive via firewire. It’s more of a settings problem. I’m not an Avid person but it sems to always need to play a tape in the camera. I’m trying to record the camera output while the camera is recording on tape.
How do I handle Deck Preferences and control if I just want to capture live video without controlling a deck.
    Video and TC are enabled.

    Thanks for responding.

According to the Supported devices page:

    https://www.avid.com/content/8927/SUPPORTED%20DEVICES%20FOR%20AVID%20EDITOR%20PRODUCTS.pdf

The DSR-500 is not supported. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t work – it just means Avid hasn’t tested it. My bet is on a menu setting in the camera. If it’s going down the pipe, Avid will see it (or should).

BTW, is the TC just not there? Or does it not match up with what’s on the tape? (Thinking out loud here) Maybe the TC signal doesn’t get sent down the FW pipe when it’s recording to a tape…. Just a thought.
