Activity Forums Avid Media Composer AMD OR INTEL??

There are people successfully using AMD with Avid editors, however Avid lists Intel as the supported configuration. Unless you’re just “hobbying” around or you truly like computer tweaking, you’re better off sticking with Avid recommendations. Do some searching on the Avid forums to see what works and what doesn’t.

    Amen, Maverick13!

If you’re trying making money, buy from a reseller. The increased cost up front will more than pay for themselves in the long run. Instead of tweaking under the hood, you’ll be editing.

I attended an Avid roadshow Thursday. While waiting to talk to one of the demo artists, I overheard this (paraphrased) conversation:

“I’m using Avid XPress Pro but it keeps crashing.”
    “What’s your system?”
“Oh, I’ve got a P4 with 4gb of RAM and a water cooled Matrox video card…”
“Matrox cards aren’t certified with Avid. You need an NVidia card.”
    “…Oh.”

My point? Stick with what Avid says works. FCP (and Mac flavored Avids) don’t have this problem, because only one company makes G5’s – Apple. It’s very easy to configure a Mac because there aren’t that many options. There are hundreds (thousands?) of PC makers. Millions of possible configurations. Avid cannot test every possible combination to see if it works. If they did, we’d never see an upgrade.

Just thought I’d throw that in.

    SATA/GF8800GT512MB/

    AM2+4MB
    1GB 800MHZ DDR2 NON-ECC CL6
    DIMM
    SMG F1 750GB SATA2
    7200RPM 32MB
    MSI GF 8800 GT PCI-E 512MB

My question is: Is my comp compatible together with AVID Composer?

In short: Probably not. Here are the specs Avid needs –

BTW, It probably would have been better to start a new thread rather than post on an old one. I would have never gone back to check something this old if I didn’t have email notification set up through the COW. You’ll get more responses that way…
