  Transfering to another drive

  OS 10.4

  I’ve been editing on one drive, which contains all the captured material, music, FX etc. [about 100GB] I now want to move only the footage / music / FX that is contained in one sequence (with handles) onto another drive. [about 20GB] I’m having problems doing this in Avid Xpress. (In final cut, I’d simply archive the project, and copy the media etc – but I’m an Avid newbie)

  Do I export an OMF and copy the media and link to the copied media? If so, do I need to create a new project file on the new drive?

  Look up Consolidate in the help files. It will explain in detail how to do what you’re doing.

  A brief overview before you hit the manual: Make a duplicate of the sequence you want to transfer to the other drive. Select it, then go to Clip–> Consolidate/Transcode (I think it’s under clip…it might be under Bin…not in front of the system right now). This will open up your options, such as Handle Length, converting audio bit depth and sample rate, allow you to select which drive you want to transfer the media to. It will essentially do what you want–copy just the media you used, with the handles you specify, to the drive of your choice.

  Again, that’s an overview. Hit up the manual for a more in depth explanation, and post back if you have troubles.
