My broadcast station is bringing in an Avid Unity with newscutters. Our department is getting the one MC with adrenaline. I’m a promotions editor now working on a Discreet Edit-Targa with AE & Combustion. I am hoping to put some video files on our network from the discreet and retrieve them into the Avid. What formats will be accepted in MC?

    thnx, Karen

Avid will import pretty much anything you can play in Quicktime. Anything rendered in its Meridien codec won’t need to be converted on import. This (theoretically) saves import time. I’ve had aliasing issues with Meridien, so I export from AE using animation codecs by default.

So I was able to import a matrox AVI over through the network and into MC.
I then tried importing a Targa AVI, which I have much more clips in this format, and I got no picture. Am I not clicking on a setting or do I have to do something else?

It’s possible that you’ve set your Avid’s import settings incorrectly. Avid alpha channels work opposite of Adobe Premiere’s and other editor’s alpha channels. If your Targa clip has an alpha channel and you import trying to preserve it, check that you have selected “invert alpha” in the Avid’s import options dialog. Alternatively, if you don’t require an alpha channel in your footage, select “ignore”. This saves considerable import time.
