Bowling Pin
Hi, I’ve seen the tutorial (can’t seem to find it now)on how to create a bullet object using a custom bevel on a profile from Illustrator.
I’m wanting to create a bowling pin the same way. This thread: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/41/857107 has the following statement by Jon Okerstrom “As for your bowling alley project, forget about using imported pins. You can make a bowling pin quite simply, using a custom bevel. And because you’re creating an edge profile, you can place the stripe around the neck, exactly where you want it.”
I understand how to make the profile, although I’m new to Illustrator, but how would I place the stripe around the neck? I’m not getting that part. Would anyone be willing to create and send the Illustrator file with the edge profile for a bowling pin with a band? Or direct me to a tutorial that would help?

Hi Donovan,
Please click on my mugshot to find the Custom Edges tutorial.
The stripes for your pins are not part of the Illustrator custom edge. You must create them in your texture map.
Best would be for you to use the Layer Mapping technique.
Create a new comp 500 X 500 for instance, add a red solid layer and draw two rectangular masks to create your horizontal stripes.
Now use this comp as a layer map to texture your object. You must assign this layer map to the edge of your bowling pin of course.To perfectly align your stripes all you need to do is work with a two comp view (One showing the Invigorator comp and the other your texture)
Move your stripes (Masks)to place them as you like.Salut,
