I’m doing some experimenting here. With the new Photoshop CS3 Extendend verision you can bring in 3D objects into a docuement.

It will take .obj files and .3ds files that Pro Animator can export.

Why can I not see anything with a .3ds file?

The .obj file works great but my color and textures do not come over. Can this be accomplished in the .3ds file and how can I get it to work?

    Howdy,

Yes… this is exactly what I would like to know also.

Additionally, if you can does this in Photoshop CS3.. why not AE?

    Hi guys,

A couple of thoughts on this – first, people in other forums report issues with Photoshop’s 3D import function. I read one post indicating graphics card choice can have an impact on this but it’s not confirmed.

The other thought – Invigorator and ProAnimator use a unique method of applying multiple textures on a single object. (Splitting bevel and sides with the materials editor.) These materials or textures will not be exported with your .obj object. Instead, you’ll get the object in its default color.

Do a simple test. Export your elements from ProAnimator, then import them into an empty scene. If that works (and it should) the problem is likely Photoshop 3.

    Does this help?

    Hi there,

The export – import out of ProAnimator works fine.

I assume that the .zxa save file contains both the project and the materials used.

The file missing from the .obj is a seperate .mtl file. So the question is… is there a way to get an .mtl file out of Zaxwerks?? or am I SOL 🙂
