  Sennheiser AVX System is way too loud on my GH5

  Hi Cow folk hope you are all well : )

  I have a quick question regarding using the Sennheiser AVX system (Lav mic on talent) and receiver into the GH5 gong from Hotshoe mount into the mic in.

  My problem is that the sound is awful, it’s way too loud and this is at the lowest in-camera mic setting which is -12dB
  There is no way of adjusting the sound on the AVX system so I don’t know what to do?

  Does anyone know what I could do to make this work?

  The output of the AVX receiver is variable.

  Also: The automatic level control of the video camera
  or the DSLR camera is active.

  Deactivate the automatic level control of
  the video camera or the DSLR camera.

  First of All,

  Thank you Ty, I was banging my head against the wall I searched everywhere online and all I could come up with was that I needed a DMW-XLR1 which is‎ US$397.99 in Andorama (I’m in the UK but its about the same give or take.

  I did what you said ( I must have missed that when I read the manual 2 years ago.) but it works, well sort of. I reduced it to -30 but its still kind of loud but if they talent speaks at their own natural way then it should be ok (fingers crossed)

  I really would love as best as I can get and struggle to believe this is it using the AVX on the GH5 as in the camera it has been lowered to its minimum which is -12 (I don’t think I cant get it any lower unless put the mic in the talents sock, now there’s an idea!)

  using my older G2’s gives me a slightly better sound (a touch quieter but the antennas are beginning to come apart and I am worried that it would look tacky (Have ordered replacements though.)

  I suppose I am going to have to do what I can with what I have but I just don’t feel comfortable with this.

  Do you think I should just say “what the heck” and dip into my cat’s college funds?

  I have read through the replies in the audio section you are amazing in the extent you go to help people.

  Thanks for the nice words.

  The best thing you can do is try it and find out. BTW, there’s a thread about the AVX that needs to be done on some units to prevent them from clipping peaks occasionally.

  He has to send his units into Sennheiser for a firmware upgrade.
