March 25, 2017 at 8:48 amHello Johan and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.
Why are you desperate? A $300+ microphone is nothing to be desperate over.
What are you trying to record?

March 26, 2017 at 2:04 pmI am desperate because I am going to make a short film very soon and we need a good mic around 400 dollars. I am mostly going to record outdoors. So I think I need a blimp too. And I heard that rode mic is very good but is there a blimp especially for mke 600? I heard that the mke 600 sounds brighter. Does that mean that it sounds better?
Now a lot of questions came all at once but I would be thankful if you would response.

March 26, 2017 at 11:31 pmHello Johan,
What camera will you be using?
Yes, outdoors shooting requires wind protection and in most cases, there goes, your $400.
Brighter is not always better. Brighter than what?
Will you have a boom operator for this mic?
Do you have a mixer or will you be feeding the camera directly?

March 27, 2017 at 5:22 amI will be using a Panasonic g7 and my friend will buy a mixer probably a tascam dr-60d mark 2 and the wind protection is not included on my 400$ budget that’s only for mic. The boom operator is also not included in the budget as I will buy it myself. The MKE 600 is brighter than the ntg4. I know it means that it is going to sound crispier on the mke but it can also sometimes even sound harsh. So I don’t know which one to buy as I look on youtube they say their favorite is ntg4 and when I search for the best mic on the internet the websites conclude the mke 600 is better. So I can’t come to a conclusion which one to buy.

March 27, 2017 at 3:21 pmHello Johan,
The TASCAM DR60D is a recorder, not so much a mixer. Unless you have hands smaller than Trumps, the knobs are too small to do any real mixing in real time. That alone can be a problem. You can’t really mix with it stacked underneath your camera and run camera at the same time.
You say you will buy the boom yourself…… Perhaps a typo. If you’re expecting to camera mount the mic, you’ll be unhappy with the results. To get good audio, you need to be within two feet of the person talking and have the mic properly angled to record them.
If you’re booming properly, I’d much prefer to use an Audix SCX-1 HC or an Audio-Technica AT4053b.

March 27, 2017 at 4:09 pmBut are these mics really good for outdoor since that is really what I want to, to get the best audio outside.
So if you could choose between mke 600 or ntg4 plus which one would you choose
Thanks again Ty Ford

There really isn’t such a thing as an outside mic. There are mics, however, that shouldn’t be used in normal interiors – shotgun mics.
