  Where to put media

  Video files should not be on the boot drive. Does that rule hold for audio files? Specifically, when recording a VO into a computer, should I record to an external drive and then edit from that external drive, or is recording to and editing from the boot drive okay since audio files are so much smaller?

  Lots dont worry about it, but its best practice to have OS and program files on your system drive and any media, audio or video on sep drives.

  Hello Tom and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

  If you have a laptop or iMac, which only have one drive, you do it on one and computers and drives are fast enough today to handle simple narration, but I’m with Peter on separate drives; one for system and apps, the other for media.

  I agree Ty.
  Id not considered that anyone would use a laptop for anything much really, but I guess they must. Most modern laptops are perfectly capable I think, but Ive no experience for laptops, coming from a studio Post background where that just wouldnt happen.
