Just curious if anyone has used, or heard of someone using, the TASCAM DP-008 for field recording…it’s battery operated and just from the specs it seems to be a low-cost viable alternative for primary video sound recording.
Any thoughts or experiences out there?
    Thanks.

The main impediment to using this, or other “portastudio”-type recorders is that their highest recording resolution is set for music or CD reproduction: 16-bit/44.1kHz… You’re going to want a minimum of 16-bit/48kHz for video sound recording.

You can use this & then up-sample to 48kHz, but it’s not recommended. You’d be better served looking at something like the Fostex FR-2LE, Marantz PMD661, Tascam HDP2, or Zoom H4N.
