Outputting Really Large Files
I’m trying to author a BluRay that would contain a large audio file – 14 gb. (44.1khz stereo)
I haven’t been able to output this file as one individual chunk from Ableton or Final Cut or anything yet.
So I cut it up into pieces but am not sure if it will play back seamlessly when dropped into DVD Pro.
Any thoughts? -

Why can’t you output a large file? If you have room on your drive, FCP should easily do this. Describe your setup and workflow. However, if you’re stuck with having to split things up, do a test and see if you can combine 2 of your segments inside DVDSP. Make a DVD and see if it works. A DVD’s faster & cheaper than testing with Blu-ray and it will tell you if your join point works.

I’m using FCP with 2 GIG Ram on an Intel iMac (not enough RAM?).
The final audio file is 24+ hours long. (14.4 gigs)
Chaining three pieces together in Quicktime (cutting, pasting and saving) gives me an error.
Perhaps compression is necessary. I’ve been trying Compression to Dolby Digital.

What’s the capacity of your drive and how much space is left before you try to export your file? Is it an external or system drive? Have you emptied the trash?

External 1 Tb drive with nothing on it.

Is anything else connected to your FW buss other than the drive? How’s the drive formatted?

It’s a USB drive with nothing else attached, it came preformatted by LaCie.
Does this Quicktime error ring any bells? qtKitErrorCatchAll (1)

My guess is it’s formatted FAT32 which limits your capture to 4 GB. Use the Mac Disk Utility to format it as Mac OS Extended (NOT journaled) and it should write large files. You will erase everything on the drive when you do this. If you have the option, use a Firewire port rather than usb with your Mac. Particularly with video, FCP doesn’t like usb.

OK I did all that.
Still get this error and a failed output from Quicktime with that same error message.
I’ve read this error is a Quicktime bug of some sort – hmm.
