I recorded some interviews with a battery powered wireless mic and accidentally left the 48v switch on my HDV camcorder on. Now those interviews I have captured to Final Cut has annoying pops. Interviews recorded after I had disabled phantom power do not. And I did not and still cannot hear those pops on the HDV tape played back in the camera. Any suggestions for a fix? Other than recording the analog output to a solid-state device, re-capturing and syncing everything double-system?

[Chris Dalrymple] “Other than recording the analog output to a solid-state device, re-capturing and syncing everything double-system?”

That sounds like a good way to handle it.

Are you using a Sony Z1? If so, I’ve had the same issues when the phantom power is used with a cable with incorrect wiring (reversed hot). No problems with other cameras or correctly shielded and wired cables.

Bingo! I’ve got a V1U. And a cable courtesy of my mic vendor. Guess I’ll take it back.

    hey, similar issue,

can anyone tell me if leaving on the ‘battery on’ switch on a condenser mic while running the phantom power setting on the Marantz compact flash (the 660) will generate an ongoing annoying buzz on all recordings? or even just leaving a battery inside the mic?

Hello Reggie and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum,

Leaving the battery in should be OK. Having Phantom on while using the battery can be a problem.

Thanks, Ty, thought that might be the case.
