    Hello there,
I´m a teacher, not very expert in creating videos. This year I decided to recor videos with students´ movile phones and that way could spend money in external microphones. Now I have an issue with the frames and thats why I write here. Im quite desperate. Need help.
I am doing a video with diferent clips recorded with movile phones. Movile phones have variable frame rate.
I create a project with 29,97fps, and even the videos recorded with the movile phones have vfr (some videos have 30,05 fps average, others 30… ), there is no problem when I render it. I render it with mainconcept avc codec and there is no problem.

But I read that I shouldn´t do that, that i should convert all the videos to constant frame rate with handbrake. Could anyone help me?

Im a a teacher and I create short films with my students. I would like to do it in the simplest way.

    Thanks in advance

Hi Yeray! What is your question? Is it how to use HandBrake or “why” should you be doing it anyway?

    My questions are:
    1. What would happen if I render the clips the way they are (vfr and @30fps)? A lot of videos have been already recorded
    2. If I use some clips with cfr, but some of them 25fps, some 30 fps, and I render everything with avc mainconcept 25fps. Would I have any problem?
    3. I have an option to record the videos with filmic pro and cfr=30fps. But that’s not 29.97fps. Would it be a problem? Because then, It’s suppose to be rendered in 29.97fps
    4. Is there any FREE app for android and ios that records video in cfr?
    5. Handbrake: I guess the only thing I should do is choose output with cfr and the fps I
    would like
with no other change. Am I ok?
Please note that We are doing short films, with conversations and so…

    Too many questions?
    Thanks in advance!

    [Yeray Rodríguez] “Too many questions?”

Nope. But maybe there COULD be too many answers! I’ll try and keep it simple and apply my own anecdotal experience. It’s tricky.

I recently came back from Amsterdam, having shoot both 29.xx and 59.xx. I wanted the cadence from 59.xx and to apply slomo. So far so good. OK, once at the VP Timeline I got myself into a real pickle and decided to hit a majority of the 29 with a 59 render. Under my circumstances I also made sure I had deselected Resampling.

This combo of Framerates and then VFR can be a real nightmare, especially once you get started with FX-ing or Speed Ramps, the wheels start falling off. My advice, is to experiment with your local footage. Keep in minded the final delivery formats too, oh yes….

I apologise if my answers appear too flimsy, but it’s the best I can do. Others may have a better direct Route1 to this.

    Hey Graham,

Many thanks for your answer. In your case, 59.XX is the double os 29.XX so… maybe you didn´t have as much problem as me.
Anyway… what does “resampling” option do?
    Thank you

Here’s one of many conversations on the matter :
    https://forums.creativecow.net/docs/forums/post.php?forumid=24&postid=995110&univpostid=995110&pview=t

Granted, as the Framerates were multiples of the other, but yes, I did have a problem once getting into colour grading and temporal-dependant Noise Reduction and MOCHA Pro. But yours are more severe. Do a search on the matter and you’ll garner much hard won experiences.

    Good luck!
