    The error basically says unsupported file format. I have tried using HandBrake to change the codec to MPEG-2 but it didn’t work ☹ Any help would be immensely appreciated.

    Try again with Hanbrake convert to mp4 – but to constant frame rate !

    What happens if you changed the file extension from .mp4 to .avc ?

    This is going to sound crazy. I don’t know why it works. But download Apple QuickTime onto your computer. Sony Vegas will then accept the mp4 files.
