Semi-OT: Hardware Requirements for Dubbing / Voice-Over in MVP Edit 15
Hello. It has been a while since I have posted, as I am transitioning from Sony Vegas Pro to TriCaster and vMix, and my paid volunteer editors are now using Magix Pro Edit 15. I have a hardware question, and hope you can help.
I have a volunteer who wants to help me by dubbing my works into Spanish in Magix Vegas Pro Edit 15. He has that golden “radio announcer” voice, but his computer is too old, and he is poor, so I will need to buy him some hardware. I don’t have money to waste, but I can get him what he needs.
My question is, if I send him an .avi file made in TriCaster or vMix, how much hardware does he need to reliably dub or “voice over” the audio to Spanish in Magix Vegas Pro Edit 15, without suffering lag or stutter (or other problems)? Are we looking at a new Core i7 rig (Intel and nVidia combo)? Or will perhaps a 2-3 year old gaming rig with 8-12 GB RAM retro-fitted with silent Noctua fans probably do the job?

Hi Norman,
I would think your second option would do. Of course it depends on the contents of the .avi file. I’m not familiar at all with TriCaster or vMix, so have no idea what your render codec options are to put in the avi wrapper.
Vegas Pro 15 Edit likes Grass Valley HQ, Cineform and Magic YUV-RGB. All of these codecs are available for Vegas Pro with a free download with Magic YUV only costing about $9 USD.
If all you are going to use is the audio dub and bring that back into your NLE for final delivery rendering, I would provide your volunteer with a proxy type file maybe something like 720p 8 bit.
If you can get access to the older gaming PC for a test, you should be able to download a free 30 day trial of Vegas Pro 15, load it on the test PC and feed it your transfer file and test if it is capable of running your test file at full speed playback. Then you will know for sure.

I don’t know much about the .avi wrappers in TriCaster or vMix either. I am trying to task those things out, so I can stay focused on my primary task of content creation (not there yet!). What I do know is that I routinely dropped the TriCaster .avi’s into Vegas Pro 14 and edited them without difficulty, so I would imagine they also work just fine in Magix Pro Edit 15.
It occurs to me that I was editing and rendering in Vegas Pro 14 on a fifth gen Core i7 (4820) and a five year old GTX 760 video card, and 8GB of RAM without difficulty, so I will ask him to price something similar. Thanks again for your help.
