  • RE-arranging events by their timecode in/out which are shown in Edit Details Window

    Hello!

I just hope there is a easier way to work with the events.

    An example.
I have 2 tracks in my timeline.
On the second track there’s one media file (video). It is just splitted to mark the parts which I plan to use. (the scenes)
I move each scene to the above track by pressing 8 on the numeric keypad.
So now I have the scenes on the first track and the source media on the second track. (the one big event which is missing those parts).
Let’s say I want to close the gaps on the first track in order for each scene to follow the next one.
Then I want my scenes to retake their places in timeline just how they were splitted from their source media.
The hard part (not undo button because this operation may occur at any time): I go to Edit Details Window and copy the entire timecode in column (for the selected events on the first track – ‘the scenes’) and paste it over the start column. Copy the entire timecode out and paste it over the end column.
After that, all scenes go to their original place, the same place as when they were splitted from their source media (which is on the second track).

Is there a plugin or extension or script that can speed up this process with working in Edit Details Window?

    Thank you!

    >>Let’s say I want to close the gaps on the first track in order for each scene to follow the next one.

In VP16 Build 361, you can select the first gap in your top video track (you didn’t mention audio tracks), right click and choose “close gaps” .. This will close all the gaps for that video track.

I generally I use two instances of Vegas to cut material like you describe. One instance has a timeline with all the takes of all the shots in the scene I am cutting. I can play the scenes, choose a take, and select the parts I want to use very precisely. The second instance of Vegas is my assembly. I paste or copy the selected scenes in the order I wish. This way I see how things are working as I go, building the assembly in the order I wish.

Example, if there is an establishing shot of a car driving up to house, then we cut to a close shot as the driver gets out. I can assemble this and see how the cut is working. I don’t have to wait and close up the gaps later.

But I’m assuming things here. I just don’t like the idea of a timeline with two tracks where the assembly is really one track.

My problem is not the gaps. Is that I want my events on track one to be reinstated to their original position in timeline just right away they were “extracted” from their source media which is on the second track. I did it by changing things in the edit details window. But that takes a lot of time and I hope/wonder if there’s an easier way to reinstate the scenes to their original position.

    Thank you!

Ok. When everything is in it’s original positions, do a “save as”. You can then use this saved version to get back to your original position.

By the way, your scheme with Edit Details is ingenious. I would have never thought of that.
