  OMF Export/Import Problems

  Hi I am trying AE 6.5 standard for the first time- got the compostion done as i want but i am having trouble actually finding where i can change the output setting to OMF for Avid exppro. I tried where it says in the help menu, in the output module, but OMF is nowhere to be seen. I tried to Export out of Avid as an OMF but when i import this file into AE nothing happens. What am i missing here?

  OMF is only available in the Professional version, methinks. Why don’t you just create a reference Quicktime movie (assuming you use AE and Avid on the same system).

  Isn’t this what “automatic duck” is used for ?
  As far as i know, AE cannot export or import OMF. The best workflow i’ve found is to export you composition into a Quicktime REF file, and export from AE into a .AVI with Avid codec.

  Automatic Duck will of course do the trick plus it will keep some effects, transitions and nested timelines from Avid, but you should be able to get a pure video/audio OMF file into AE Professional. The import option is there, but I don’t know how successfully it can be used ‘cos I never tried. Anyway, if he has only AE Standard, he’s out of luck in this case.

  So standard won’t do the job- generally if u look around AE it will specify if the effect is for “pro only” thats what made me think it was possible as it doesn’t specify that anywhwere. I will try a few things to see what i come up with with the QT etc…
