    This is an annoying issue.

Recently I started using the Auto-Ripple feature to speed up the process of pre-cut my footages. However I noticed that if I delete a chunk while it is playing sometimes Vegas will hang. The funniest part is that the program stops to respond but video will continue playing normally. Anyway, when it happens the only way to heal the problem is to open task manager, kill the process (losing everything I did after my last save) and restart the program.

My system is modest (an i5 with 8GB of RAM) running W7-64 but I believe that this is not the culprit because I checked the performance in task manager when the program locks and it’s always around the middle of used RAM and CPU resources. I also though that it could be caused because I was using an USB disk for editing and that perhaps it was causing some kind of bottleneck, but then I reorganized all my work space and moved the video stuff to a SATA internal drive but the problem persists. So again, I think that this is not also the reason.

I am now being careful to not forget to stop video playing before to delete chunks of media with Auto Ripple but I would like to know if this is a known issue or if there is something wrong with my setup.

    Thanks!

    Hi Yan,

After replying to your cross post at Creative Software forum, I went back and did some additional testing in both Magix Vegas Pro 16 and Sony Vegas Pro 13 with 2 different source medias and I cannot duplicate your issue, nor have I read of anyone else posting this issue. That certainly doesn’t mean it isn’t a known issue of course.

Your project vs my project and your system vs my system would probably have a lot to do with your results vs mine.

Can you explain what the crash is like when this issue comes up? I would think, because you say the preview continues that you are not receiving a ‘not responding’ error, or any other popup window error…..is that correct?

Can you pretty much duplicate this when you want or is it more random than that?

I used to get what I call screen freezes (it never happened when I was playing the preview, so I don’t think it is the same as your issue, however……) and at first I was shutting Vegas Pro 13 down and like yourself would lose editing since the previous save as (Windows 7 Pro). Then I discover that is I just did ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ then instead of selecting Task Manager I just clicked on ‘Cancel’ when it went back to Vegas the freeze was unfrozen! That is why I suggested doing this on my reply in the other forum. Of course this is the cure, just a workaround if it also would work in your issue. Also the screen freeze I had also followed when I upgraded to VP15 and then VP16. I searched and searched and no one else was having the same issue so my assumption was it was in my system.

I finally got rid of it when I did a clean install of Windows 10. Was it the clean install or Windows 10 that solved my issue? I don’t know, more than likely it was the clean OS install, because I tried every GPU driver available plus a whole lot of other changes and I know I had been running Windows 7 Pro for many years and no doubt there was some garbage in my system.

    Best Regards……George

    Hi George!

Yeah, I just saw (and answered) your post.

Basically the program stops do respond, the screen gets that whitey aspect and the mouse cursor become that forever turning thing. I said that the preview continues, but just now I realized that I didn’t explain it right. Actually the preview do NOT continues, just the sound keep playing (I just fixed my OP).

Anyway, I tried the CONTROL+ALT+DEL and CANCEL but it didn’t work for me (didn’t recover the program).

I cannot reproduce the error in ANY file, but I noticed that I can reproduce it any time I want in a file that already had happened this. Probably it has to have a certain amount of layers and cuts and edits IDK.

I am not considering upgrade my Windows. I may try a newer version of VP. However, I figured that since I do NOT use Auto-Ripple or at least don’t use it while playing the time-line the problem won’t happen.

    Thanks!

Yan, another long shot if you haven’t tried it yet, a full reset……hold down ‘Ctrl+Shift’ keys and double left click the desktop icon for Vegas. Then check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’, then left click on ‘Yes’. This will reset Vegas Pro to the default installation setup and delete the pesky cached data that sometimes makes Vegas do strange things out of the blue.

    Best Regards……George
