delete, solved i think…. can’t find how to delete a post … ?
the single video track now appears as two [tracks] (“A” and “B”) within one track:

Edit: Ah — they are “track layers”. That half-solves this question. I think I understand the value of layers within a track, but I don’t believe I put video on this track in layers.

How did it happen? I must have pressed something on my keyboard accidentally – do you know what I pressed?
What is the point of this feature?
What does the red square bracket mean?
Where an image appears on the timeline without the blue header, nothing displays in the video preview (after shifting one section horizontally, there are now a few seconds of black between the two sections), so why do these images appear on the timeline?
(Images appear elsewhere on the timeline too, again for no discernible reason, and no effect – they just confuse me.)

wish #1: in the trimmer, batch create subclips from regions*
wish #2: same, in the timeline (on a single track with no overlapping files)
* (ideally with the option to name the subclip using the region text – either appended to or replacing all or part of the filename) -

Search for “Expand Track Layers” in the help file. You can change that mode by right-clicking the track header and choosing “Expand Track Layers”, Pressing 5 on the numeric keypad, double clicking an event edge…
