  Does Vegas need to support greater than 4096×4096 resolution for output? Opinions please.

  Over the last few months I have noticed a lot of posts in various places about Vegas not supporting 8K output. Some people are adamant that they cannot use Vegas without this ability.

  So, for those that want greater than 4k output, please explain why and what specific output formats you need.

  Examples:

  1) Large signboards or architectural projection
  2) 8k broadcast future proofing
  3) Exchanging media with other programs (or render & replace operations within Vegas) without loosing resolution on >4k sources (this last one is my personal objective, and is a “nice to have” rather than a “must have.”)

  I’m good at 1080 — so 4k is plenty for me .. I just had a showing of a long form piece at an iPic Theatre. We took my 1080p and cranked it through some DCP software (Digital Cinema Package) .. the on screen result was amazing. To me, it looked as good as it looked on my 27″ monitor that I use for editing. Literally NO meaningful loss of quality in the upscaling. I was expecting much worse. Even where I had seriously cropped into the frame, it looked no worse than on my editing monitor. Screen size was 48 feet wide.

  8K will have it’s uses but upscaling software may be the path to get there sooner.
