Hi i have a 4 hour show that I plan to chop up and make a frankensteins monster out of the clips. Step one is to remove the clips I need out of the 4 hour show and save them as distinct clips. This should be easy with Vegas but it is not working intuitively, at least according to my intuition. IF i highlight a section of video in my timeline, copy it, then open a new project, I cannot past it into the new project. (the paste menuitem is not active)
So Instead I tried to delete the video before and after the clip I want, after removing everything I DONT want, then i move the clip back to the beginning of the timeline and Save it, but this fails because when I move the clip back to he beginning, the video that I deleted is restored inplace of my clip.
I looked at a few tutorials but I did not find the answer I need. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

You can have several ‘instances’ of Vegas open at the same time. Once you have your working copy of the files loaded, simply minimize the window and relaunch Vegas again. Then you can easily copy from your working copy and paste to your newly opened Vegas project. Hope this helps.

    Hi Bobby,

I don’t know what version of Vegas you are using, and it shouldn’t make any difference. You should be able to copy and paste within the same project, within the same timeline, or in another project (reference Bob Moyer above). It sounds like Vegas is confused. I say this a lot, but often times it works and solves the issue, if you haven’t already done a full reset, I would try it. While holding down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys, double left click on your Vegas desktop icon. Click on ‘Delete all cached application data’, then click on ‘Yes’. This will reset Vegas to the original installation setup and delete the pesky application cached data which sometimes will build up and confuse Vegas making it do strange things.

    Best Regards……George

To copy from the timeline of one project to another, both prorate need to be open at the same time,
