Using an external editor to edit audio has been very hit and miss for me.

I select an audio clip and ask to edit a copy, using Audacity. I normalise the clip, then export from Audacity. Instructions say that if I then return to Vegas, I will see the clip altered to reflect the change.

Sometimes it does and sometimes not.

I have NO IDEA what I do “wrong” when nothing happens.

It does seem that if I do the above, I am not asked if I wish to overwrite, and then changes fail.

So if I start a new project, and ask to import new media, then choose a wav file, that may or may not be one created when I modified it in audacity, it simply does not appear in my project.

Which one of us is…broken? I am getting very sketchy results and very unreliable.

My workflow was to Open a Copy the first time, but then open the actual file for the remainder of the edits. This avoided having multiple copies of copies. It seemed to work well for me and the subsequent edits were always reflected on the timeline because I was just editing the same copy over and over while keeping the original the same.

Hmmm..as with the issue of volumes in tracks, I opened up this morning and editing is working again. Gremlins…..

Definitely a “ghost in the machine” ;-D

Glad you got it working again.
