  • How do you crop just one side with the pan/crop box?

Posted by Stefan Schramm on October 13, 2016 at 1:55 pm

This sounds so basic, but I can’t get it to work. Here’s the situation:

The top video layer has a Google Earth image.
The lower video layer has the same image, but with a route drawn in.

I want to gradually reveal the lower layer from top to bottom, so that a pseudo-animation effect is created, as if the route is drawn.

When I try animating with the pan/crop box, either the images are distorted, or they move all over the place. Obviously I am missing something or it’s not the right tool to begin with.

After scratching my head for a while, I ended up cheating using a long Linear Wipe transition which worked ok. I’d still like to know the ‘proper’ way of doing this, though.

    Thanks for any help,
    Stefan

Proper? – Well, UNCHECK these 3:

That’s your PC Q answered BUT. Route reveals, which I see is what you really want to do, then others can chip in with Animated Masks and then there is the devious creeping Luminance Gradient which when I’m clever I’ll revisit too!

There’s always that old freebie “Route Generator”…a little faster & more accurate than wipes or pans.

Thanks Graham, I thought I did check all this, but I must have missed it. Thanks for taking the time to draw the graphics! Much appreciated ?

    Hi Pete,

I wasn’t aware of this – I’ll see if I can dig it out for the next project. This is not the first map/route that I needed to draw and I’m sure it won’t be the last one.

    Hi Graham,

I finally figured that I had missed your #3 check originally. All goes well now. Thanks again,
