1080p workflow desqueezes 1.33 anamorphic ?
I having a hard time figuring out the right template to start my workflow.
I recorded my footage from my iPhone using FlimicPro. The iPhone is capturing into a 1080p frame at 24fps 16:9. In addition, I am using a 1.33 anamorphic lens that squeezes more into the frame.
When I load the file into Sony Vegas Pro 13, it loads a frame with 2554×1080 with Aspect Ratio= 1.000 (square). No letterbox or pillars. The preview window displays 2554×1080.
When I use Mediainfo, it says the PAR is 2:35:1 and more below:

Sounds intriguing! I don’t have any valuable feedback, but would enjoy in seeing at least one Screengrab of your anamorphic output and the optical lens attachment on your iPhone!

That doesn’t seem possible. Everything is correct but it shouldn’t be. The video should be 1920×1080 squeezed. Are you sure that you used 16:9 1080p in FilmicPro and not 2.35:1? There is no way that the footage would have come out correctly like it did unless Filmic Pro or Vegas Pro knew about the anamorphic lens (which they couldn’t have). But magically, MediaInfo is reporting the footage correctly having more resolution that it should. 2554×1080 PAR 1.0 is 1920×1080 PAR 1.33.
I too am interested in learning more about this setup.

Correct, that is the lens I am using along with the 52mm filters, Zhiyun gimbal, and a rode videomicro compact.

I would not use an aspect ratio other than 1.0. Most media players don’t handle aspect ratios well. Render it out as 2554×1080 with a square aspect ratio of 1.000. If MainConcept can’t handle that width then you have no other choice but to use an aspect ratio of 1.3333 but I would render as square pixels if you can.

Thanks, it turns out it was the app automatically desqueezing the footage.
but strangely it was unable to convert to the Cineform GoPro file at this resolution. So I turned off the feature and recaptured in 1080p.

For now I am setting the project properties to 1920×1080 with par 1.33, and set the “Maintain Aspect Ratio” to false in the pan and cropping tool. Would this be the best way to desqueeze in Sony Vegas Pro?

No, I would set the project properties to the unsqueezed resolution at PAR 1.0. You don’t want to be cropping anything. You want to work in the full resolution.
