    Hey guys,

Just wandering whether it’s possible to make an imported video footage or a comp continuously loop playback? Is the only possible way making duplicates of your clip and adding it at the end of the clip on a new layer?

Would love to know if alternatives exist.

    Cheers, Eugene

    Hi Eugene –

While dissolving clips end to end will do the trick (if you know the max amount of time you need the clip to play), there’s another way. It’s called a dissolve loop. You split your clip in the middle, swap the two pieces end for end, and put a dissolve where the two former ends were. You will need to tweak how long the dissolve is depending on whether it looks better with a quick, or slow dissolve. That’s a content issue, subject to the editor’s taste.

It works well with most footage, especially when the dissolve loops are used as background pieces. You can set up a template in After Effects specifically for this, then just drop your footage into it and render. Have fun!

Right-click on the footage in the project window and go to Interpret Footage > Main. Down the bottom in ‘Other options’ is a box where you can set how many times you want your footage to loop.

    See “Loop a footage item”.

I found this using this After Effects Community Help search for the terms in your subject line for this thread.
