Movie Studio Platinum 13 – Won’t use CUDA
Hello all,
As the title suggests, I am using Movie Studio Platinum 13 to render videos. These videos are 1080p, 60FPS gaming footage using the Mainconcept encoder. All settings are set to High, essentially.
Although my GTX 980 is selected as the CUDA device, and CUDA is reconfigured by Movie Studio, it does not appear to use my graphics card at all. In fact, it’s usage is 0%.

If you are using MainConcept AVC it’s not going to work with any card that’s not Fermi architecture. So that’s basically the GeForce 400 series and GeForce 500 series of cards.

I see. Well, that’s a shame. Are you aware of any plans to support newer series of cards?
Perhaps you could help me with another issue. Is it Sony AVC or Mainconcept I should use for Youtube 1080p 60fps gaming footage? I’ve read posts on various forums, including this one, that suggest either one is better than the other, but I have read something to do with Mainconcept now being the preferred method since they changed how the templates were listed…or something.

The problem is that MainConcept was sold to two other companies and they are no longer updating this encoder so unless Sony licenses something newer, it’s not going to change.

Yea, Sony moved the Internet templates that were under Sony AVC over to MainConcept AVC suggesting that you should use MainConcept over Sony for YouTube delivery. It’s really up to you. Use the one that looks best to your eyes. I use the MainConcept AVC encoder for my YouTube videos but that’s only because it renders faster with my ATI Radeon HD 5870 than the Sony encoder does.
