Should I render in sections…?
Guys…
Just wondering … I’m half way through a 3.5 minute video and thinking it might be easier on my processor if I render up this first section and stitch it together with the second half when I’m done..?
Lots of Plug-in effects in the intro which are rendered already and as my 2.4 gig i3 has not yet crashed on me once I figure it’s probably wise to take this course and not temp fate.
Is it common practise to render in sections…?… even if you have a ferrari editing computer…?

If I have a complex intro I almost always do that in a separate project, render it out, and drop it into my main project. So yes, rendering in sections is a good way to keep the final render as short as possible.

John…. should I render the sections in AVI…? or does it not pose any issue if it’s rendered in an MP4 container..?
Being highly compressed I know all too well that MP4 is not editor friendly… but is it just as unfriendly if I’m simply stitching sections together and re-rendering…?

You can just ender to MP4. It shouldn’t be a problem since you will only be rendering one more time. For the highest possible quality you could use AVI with the CineForm codec (which you would need to get from installing GoPro Studio) or use Sony YUV (which will produce huge files). The question is, will you see a difference from just rendering to MP4 and the answer is, probably not.
