  Movie Studio 12 -Trimmer Window vs Editing on Timeline.

  Hi-

  I’m learning Sony Movie Studio 12 Platinum with the help of the Muvipix manual, which seems to be the best guide in print for this software. I’m reading that trimming can be done either in the trimmer window or directly on the timeline Given this, it’s not clear to me when one would prefer using the trimmer window over the timeline. Are there any guidelines for what situations would indicate using one versus the other, or is this more of an individual preference type of thing? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  I use the timeline unless I know I want to select a small segment of a clip to fill a specific hole on the timeline. 99% of my editing is done directly on the timeline.

  When you are in the middle of your project and you need to insert a section of video that is a subset of a longer piece, you would use the trimmer to find that small section and add it to the timeline without disturbing the placement of other video on the timeline. You can also use the trimmer to create the initial subclips of video that you will use before you start editing but I’m not sure if Movie Studio supports subclips like Vegas Pro does. Otherwise, working directly on the timeline is that fastest way to edit.
