Are these two laptops compaible with Vegas Pro? (experts say less headaches means better workflow minus aspirin)
I know desktops are better for editing videos with Vegas Pro but
I don’t have the option of using a desktop at this time. I have a
question about two different laptops.LAPTOP #1 SYSTEM INFO:
Intel HD Graphics Card
i5-3317U 1.70 GHz
6GB System Memory
64-bit Operating System
15″ monitorLAPTOP #2 SYSTEM INFO:
GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics Card
i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz
16GB DDR3 System Memory
64-bit Operating System
17″ monitorI’d like to know if both would be suitable for editing videos or if
they would cause trouble and headaches when editing videos. Laptop #2
has more of everything. But does that really mean, when compared to
Laptop #1, that I will see and feel a major difference when editing
videos with Laptop #2? Of course I’m assuming Laptop #2 would be compatible
with Vegas Pro but then I’m not sure if it is compatible with Vegas Pro.
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated and please remember the goal
is to edit videos with a laptop that provides a fluid, headache-free workflow. -

I would go with #2 as the Intel graphics card is not compatible with all plugins.

You’re driving to your best friends wedding. You’re going to be his best man at the wedding. As usual, you’re running late. Because you’re addicted to coffee, you stop the car and bolt into a coffee shop. A customer recognizes you, he saw your mugshot on CreativeCow. He tells you that he’s new to video editing. He has a pen and paper in hand. He asks you if you’d be nice enough to list each and every feature a laptop should have for editing videos. You want to be nice, but you’re pressed for time. Because you’re pressed for time, with coffee in hand you dash out the door. Over your shoulder you yell to the aspiring editor “JUST GO OUT AND BUY A GAMING LAPTOP. ANY LAPTOP MADE FOR GAMING WILL BE A LAPTOP THAT IS AUTOMATICALLY OPTIMIZED FOR EDITING VIDEOS. A VIDEO EDITOR CAN’T GO WRONG WITH AN EXPENSIVE, HIGH-END GAMING LAPTOP, PROBLEM SOLVED!!!” I’m curious, would that statement, that piece of advice, be valid and on the money? Are there any flaw associated with that statement that you can think of? Please tear it to shreds if it’s inaccurate in any way, or conversely, let us know if it’s a good Rule of Thumb a person can go by. Nothing wrong with gaming, but no, I’m not a gamer, not at all.

Laptop #1 is below the minimum specification for Vegas Pro which requires a minimum of 2.0Ghz processor so Laptop #1 isn’t even an option.
In addition, comparing a i5-3317U 1.70 GHz with a i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz is like comparing a bicycle to an automobile. There really is no comparison due to the difference in speed and processors.
Also according to Intel, the Core i5 is for consuming multi-media while the Core i7 is for “creating” multi-media. Since you are a content creator, I wouldn’t settle for anything less than a Core i7. Also the NVIDIA card on that laptop is superior to the integrated graphics.
Bottom Line: Laptop #2 is your only choice if video editing with Vegas Pro is your intended usage.
