I have been browsing several forums for SVP settings, but can’t find them. SVP12 crashes when I want to preview/play from timeline. I bought a new GPU, but still crashing. What do I need to do to get SVP12 working properly? Settings in Vegas don’t seem to matter (GPU on or off, same difference). Project settings reflect used footage. Windows 7 64 runs fine otherwise, but is has been suggested that Windows settings need to be adjusted. HOW?
    Can anybody please help…..

[Joost Zeeveneegelbeek] “SVP12 crashes when I want to preview/play from timeline.”

What video codec does the file use? Maybe it’s one that Vegas can’t handle.

The camera produces avi-files, which SVP12 doesn’t accept. But with software provided with the camera I converted it to m2t. That I can drag to the timeline. The image is visible and the sound audible. It seems to be double HD NTSC (29.something fps). SVP12 recognizes the format and adjusts settings accordingly. So everything seems fine, until I hit PLAY.

Why are you converting AVI files to M2T? I would convert the files to Motion-JPEG video with PCM audio using a tool like AviDemux.

You will get an AVI file that uses a codec that Vegas can edit.

Thanks very much for your input.

I just used the converter software that came with the camera. Another camera of mine produces m2t, which I can use and edit without difficulty. Is it possible that you can import video on the timeline, see the image and random positiions, play audio effortlessly, all in a codec SVP seems to accept and still have the wrong codec?

Will the quality of the image (full HD) remain when using motion jpeg? I thought that codec compresses the signal substantially.

I always like to understand why something doesn’t work, so I know how to handle related problems in the future.

    Hope to hear from you.

Sorry it took so long, but finally found the time to try Avidemux. I can’t seem te select M-JPEG for video. It’s MPEG, which it doesn’t accept because of low pixel ratio (is what the error reads; I have no idea why), MP4 in several formats, Mpeg2 or AVI, but that is what I start out with. I tried Mpeg4 x264 but SVP12 won’t accept that either. What am I doing wrong?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

That doesn’t make any sense. M-JPEG is in the list. How can it not show up on your computer? This is what my list looks like:

I don’t know why it’s not showing up on your computer. Are you using AviDemix 2.5?

You can try installing a codec like Huffyuv and use that but the files will be huge.

Mr. Rofrano, I’d first like to thank you for your swift reply to my previous post. I really appreciate it a lot that you keep abreast of threads that have been started maybe weeks ago but haven’t been resolved yet. First class. Thanks.

You were absolutely right: I had the 2.6 version of Avidemux, which doesn’t seem to list M-JPEG; at least I couldn’t find it. The main window looks just a bit different.
Found a 2.5 version and there it was: the window as you showed in your previous post. It works wonders enclosing screenshots like you did. Now I was able to see what I did wrong.

Of course now the video conversion did work. I did get the following message preceding the conversion:
“If the file is using B-frames as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering. Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but YOU WILL LOSE FRAME ACCURACY. Do you want to use that mode?”

At first I clicked YES, but then got a green frame at the beginning. When clicking NO the message appeared that I should use the tool “rebuild frame”. After clicking YES the video was now clean.

There was however no audio. I saved the audio seperately as mp3 and added it to the timeline, but sync got lost about halfway through. Strangely enough, although the audio track is significantly longer than the video, it seems to be too fast. So shrinking the audio track to the size of the video makes matters worse.

Video looked pretty bad. I’m not sure whether that is due to the conversion or the camera. It is an inexpensive stereo camera. The video poses another problem. With the earlier conversion I was able to get the frame ratio correct in Vegas, as the ‘original’ is squeezed. With the M-JPEG conversion the video Vegas seems unable to recognize it as “double NTSC”. Of course I can use the pan/crop window to use one of the images (left or right)for previewing in the correct ratio. But how do I get both left and right unsqueezed?

    Sincerely,
    J.J.

I didn’t realize you were working with stereo 3D video. I don’t even know if M-JPEG supports that (apparently it doesn’t). I’ve never worked with 3D so I really can’t help (sorry).

At this point I would create a new thread about trouble converting 3D video so that people who have 3D cameras will hopefully see it and help. Maybe they will know of a better codec to use.
