    Hey there,

I run a YouTube channel and edit videos multiple times daily. I record my footage with an HD PVR in the codec H.264 if I’m correct. The usual video is about 6:00 long with simple color correction, a crop, and one voice over. Recently, I started editing 30 or so small video clips and about 100 voice overs in a project. After 4 hours, the preview window randomly turned red and it would not let me see the video anymore. Also, I kept getting an error message saying “Your system is on low memory. Close other programs to continue”. In the drop down box, it also said something along the lines of “there is no available audio playback”. Even after closing all other programs and restarting my computer, the problems return. I get all of these problems WITHOUT and color correction or cropping. I’ve come to the conclusion that my audio and video starts to have these strange glitches when I edit large amounts of media. Can anybody help me with this problem? Is there a work around? Is it safe to uninstall Vegas without losing all of my saved projects?

    Thanks!

    Jackson

Red video means your resources are low. It even gave you a low memory warning. It sounds like your project is getting too big for Movie Studio which is only 32-bit and limited to 2GB of memory. You can safely uninstall it and re-install it without loosing any of your projects but I doubt that will help.

It’s odd that you are having no audio device found all of a sudden. What changed on your computer? Did you install any Microsoft updates? Perhaps try and restore to an earlier restore point to when you weren’t having problems?

Wow, this is upsetting… Would it work if I edited it in chunks of separate projects and dragged the chunks together into one final project? If not, can you recommend an editing program that will be able to handle what I am trying to produce? I only got about a minute and a half into the thing and the whole project needs to be 10 minutes long.

    Thanks for your help.

[Jackson Van OVer] “Would it work if I edited it in chunks of separate projects and dragged the chunks together into one final project?”

Yes, you could certainly edit in smaller segments then render each segment to a lossless codec like Huffyuv or Lagarith and then finally place all of those renders into a final project and render that to the final delivery format.

Vegas Pro 10 64-bit. This will use all of the memory that your computer has to offer.

I don’t know if this will help but many users complaining of crashes when trying to edit HD with various versions of Movie Studio found that a workaround solved their problem. Your problem is not their problem, but it might be worth a shot if you’ve tried everything else short of upgrading to Pro.
