  What are the circumstances where it would be helpful to do snapping?

  I have it enabled all the time.
  It helps me make sure the beginning of the next event starts exactly at the end of the preceding event.
  If I have markers on my timeline, this ensures that all events start exactly at the marker position.
  There are numerous other uses for snapping but these are my main ones.
