Importing media problems
I just got this program and I want to start using it but I can’t even import media to do so. The Explorer that shows the documents on my computer that I can import doesn’t show me any of the media I have. All it says is “My Computer”, “My documents”, etc. It doesn’t show me any of the video or picture files that I have. Since I couldn’t import using the explorer I tried going to “Project” and then “Import media” but when I did that the video files I imported didn’t have any audio. I have no idea why it’s not working. Thanks in advance for any help.

What media do you have? What file extensions does it use?

Is it Vegas Pro 10 you have? What format are the pics and videos you are trying to import? Normally when you put a video on the timeline, it shows two tracks, the video right above the audio. Are you not getting an audio track under the video? What kind of camera did the videos come from? Sorry for all the questions but there’s not enough info for us to help you yet.

I have Movie Studio HD V9. My camera is a Kodak Zx1 HD and it creates Quicktime (.MOV) video files when uploaded to my computer. The video doesn’t even have audio when I preview it on the Project Media window and when I movie it to the timeline I don’t see/hear any audio there either. I also have several other file types besides .MOV in my Photo and Video folders but those don’t show in the Explorer window either.

The first problem is that you’re using a brand new camera with old video editing software. I have a Kodak Zi8 and Vegas Movie Studio HD 10 edits the files without a problem. I would suggest that you upgrade your software to match the newness of your camera.
The other problem might be the version of QuickTime you have installed. If you have a version of QuickTime newer than 7.6.2 this may be causing the problem. Either downgrade your QuickTime or upgrade Movie Studio.

If the file type doesn’t show up, then it’s probably not supported by Vegas. For example, .mkv files are not supported.

Does that mean I would have to get version 10? V9 is compatible with Windows 7 so it can’t be that old. Is there a way to downgrade my Quicktime player? Thanks for your help.

Yea, I would try downgrading QuickTime first. AVID has a list of versions on their site:
Uninstall the QuickTime you have now and install 7.6.0 or 7.6.2. That might take care of the missing audio.
