After restoring my entire environment after my motherboard fried, here’s what I’ve found. Let me know if this is reasonable.

    • OS, Vegas (etc) and Vegas Projects folder on C
    • Use W7 “Create a system image” under Control Panels Backup to regularly image the C drive to an external removeable hard disk. (Once a week/ or once a month). If your main drive fails, or your machine smokes, buy a new machine and reimage the C drive with this. Your machine will automatically reconfig the graphics drivers, etc. You might need to upload a few other drivers if the machine is different from what you had before, but this usually will work.
    • Use RAID 1 to mirror your external (or internal) disks for raw data etc.
    • Copy raw data from RAID to removeable hard disks on a project basis via external esata dock frequently. Take them to a vault somewhere

    .

Always set a restore point before any kind of upgrade or install of third party crap.
    And/or backup/image before doing that.

Works for me. How about you?

I use that utility all the time now. If you didn’t know, click start, type backup, and select create system image backup. Make sure you create a repair DVD when it’s done. Boot with that repair DVD and point to that image folder.
