Framing problem with still to timelapse
Posted by Al Bergstein on March 5, 2011 at 6:07 pmI’m having a minor framing problem. I shot stills on my 7D for use in timelapse sequences. Notice the black bars on the right and left. I obviously don’t have something set right. I’ve included my setup screen. What do I need to change to go full screen on HD?

March 5, 2011 at 8:05 pmYour stills are not 16 x 9 aspect ratio. Rather than using event pan/crop for each still to crop of some of the top and or bottom to make it fill the screen, use the track motion, with the curser at the beginning as to not create a keframe in the middle somewhere, increase the size until the image fills the screen. Again you will lose some of the top and bottom but you can drag the image up or down if there’s something at the top or bottom you don’t want cropped off. If your not concerned about streaching it wider to fit, de-select maintain aspect ratio in the Track Motion window. Your images will be strached to fit the width but you won’t lose any off the top or bottom with this method. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

March 5, 2011 at 8:07 pmTo remove the black bars click the ‘Event Pan/Crop’ tool on the far right of the timeline clip. From the drop down menu choose 16:9. Viola!
You can also re-position the crop as required.I’d also change the render quality to best.

March 5, 2011 at 9:10 pmYou could do that, but his post and picture shows he’s using stills, and you would have to do that for every still on the timeline.

March 5, 2011 at 9:21 pmYup . I noticed after I had submitted my response for moderation.
If that’s Vegas 9 or 10 he could import that pile of stills as an Image Sequence making life easier all round IMHO.

Make sure Automatically crop still images added to timeline is selected.
No more black bars. -

March 6, 2011 at 3:39 pmThanks very much! I’ll try all those to be sure I understand how they all work. I’ll be doing more time lapse, so it’s critical to get the workflow optimized. This sure would be appropriate for a FAQ .

March 16, 2011 at 9:48 pmThanks Mike, I think that your suggestion worked easiest. It was unchecked for some reason.

I believe that the default setting is unchecked so don’t worry about it.
