Some basic Vegas Pro 10 questiions
Hello all, first post here. I have spent a while grazing through the forums and found some really great information.
I do have a few questions though that I could not find answers to already. Forgive me, I am very new to video editing.1. Rendering. (Render unto Caeser..) That one kinda loses me. I grasp (kinda) the need to keep projects in a workable format and not screwing up the original (thank you sony). But what I dont understand is and I hope someone tells me I am wrong… is why the cheaper version of this movie studio allows you to create dvd’s directly and the more expensive requires DVD Architect (yeah, I went out and bought it too…)? Or am I missing a drop down option somewhere? I really am not looking for theory on this as much as a yes or no if I reading this right. Sony Vegas Pro does not create DVD’s? (or save to hard drive in executable format)
2. Extracting a still frame from a video clip. How is this done. My objective is to take a still from a video clip (I am editing martial art instructional tapes and Vegas is really making it easy) and leave it on screen for say 1-2mins while I insert voice over narrative and edit the photograph with all kinds of lines and arrows and circles….. 🙂
3. Is there a concise listing of addins (plugins or whatever) that you can use for Vegas Pro 10?
4. I am a long term user of ACID. (The program. Though at times it feels otherwise.) And I want to edit my audio in that natively as I am use to it and its more powerful. How do I open up an audio track into acid from within Vegas Pro. I have seen references to doing so but the button is hidden?
5. .avi files. I found in the forum the posting with 32bit .avi dll and followed the instructions. = Fail. I have two 64 bit win 7 laptops and the vast majority of my stock footage is in .avi. At this point I will actually wait for sony to come out with a patch vs trying to learn Adobe Premiere again. Or would buy a Mac first. It would be nice though to be able to load .avi’s. (I am continuing to research this one…)

1. When you are finished with your edit, you render your final results out to the ending file that you need. For example, suppose you taped an event, you edit it down as desired, then maybe you “RENDER” it out to MPEG2 so you can create a DVD of the final edit. Or maybe you “RENDER” it to some format to be uploaded to a website. Basically it’s a way to output your final edit into whatever video format is needed.
2. Click on the “Save Snapshot” button just over the preview screen.
3. I have several listed on my website. Any type of plugin in particular?
4. For Sound Forge, people use Options – Preferences – Audio tab and then set the “Preferred Audio Editor”.
5. Vegas loads my AVI files just fine. However, “AVI” is like a paper sack. It can hold many different formats of video. It sounds like what is in your particular sack is in a codec that Vegas currently can’t recognize. What’s the source of your AVI file? You basically need to figure out what codec the video uses and install that codec. Please do NOT install a “codec pack”.

I am still attacking the Rendering concept. I guess, if I am reading your reply and further research I have done, the file output format is not set by Vegas pro but by the user. Hmm. I still dont see how I can play the final product on my computer or upload it yet. But if my reading of this situation is correct I think I just need some more time playing with it…
As for the save snapshot. I apologize. I didnt phrase that properly and am working on that today. If I cant resolve the issues I will re-post. It is a velocity issue I am having. But I might have a solution.
I am looking at your website now. It appears to be a gold mine of information and I will see what I can find there.
On the .AVI issue. I am really trying to solve this one. I was thinking. What if I converted my .AVI files to another format? Hmm.
