Sony Vegas rendering
First off i’d like to introduce myself, I’m Juliano but you can call me J.C.
My issue/question is, I’m new to Vegas, I have Vegas 8 installed on my Vista Laptop but am borrowing my cousin’s computer with Vegas 10 pro trial to edit because mine is too slow. I have everything all edited and cut up, all I need to do is add music however I shot with a DSLR so the files were .MOV 1080p @ 24p. I’m trying to down-convert from HD to SD so what I did was render as MPEG 2 @ 24p and then rendered the audio separate as ac3/ dolby studio , not exactly sure what template but what I am trying to do is burn it on a dvd and add music to the video later on in my laptop, is that possible?
is there something i’m missing here? the sound didnt play on quicktime or windows media.. any and all help will be appreciated

AC-3 is a file format that is encoded for DVD/BluRay playback- not necessarily playback on your computer as a file.
Going from one computer to another is possible- just save the files to an external and reconnect the broken file links when you connect to your other PC. However, if you edited in Vegas Pro 10 you will not be able to open Vegas Pro 10 projects in Vegas Pro 8. That is not possible.
You can take the mpg-2 file and drop it on the timeline, but the AC-3 file is not able to be read on the timeline. You will want to render it as a wav file. I think Vegas Pro 8 allows for no recompression of the video file if you do not edit it (or if you cut, it only recompresses where the cuts are). I could be wrong on that as I don’t remember if that was implemented in 8 or 9. If it doesn’t, you will lose some quality as you are recompressing a lossy codec. If this is the case, save it as a Lagarith file or Cineform file (you will need to download Lagarith, it is free and the same is true of Cineform in Vegas 10 but it is not free).
