My question is on audio output

Which is the better method to use?
I have an audio stream which I want the sound to increase over the whole track, but when I put the audio output slider at 9.0 its clean.

When I put the volume envelope slider at 6.0 and combine this, the sound gets distorted. What gives?

What is difference between these two controls?
Anything above 9.0 creates distortion while anything below that volume in the audio is fine. When I add a volume envelope with it, it causes what seems like more bass. Its hard to describe!

    Create an audio track
Set the output volume to +5.3
Now add a volume envelope to the track and slowly raise the slider with the volume envelope. The sound gets distorted for some reason.

Now remove the volume envelope and put the audio output at +12.0 and slowly go down. The audio is undistorted at +9.0 without the volume envelope active.

Whats the best way to raise the volume for a complete audio track?
    Audio output increase
    Audio output + volume envelope
    Volume envelope

My guess is that you’re pushing the audio clip too hard.
When you combine the two methods, are the VU meters going into the red all the time?

    Hi Mike,

This is really an audio issue. You can’t solve it in Sony Vegas, you need to use an audio editing program. You can add an compression. The volume control in Sony Vegas will put up your whole audio track without compression, which means that your peaks will be above the limited gain, which causes distortion.

You can use free editing software like Audacity, also you can look up for the cheep programs like Cool Edit Pro.

    I hope I helped you.

“This is really an audio issue. You can’t solve it in Sony Vegas, you need to use an audio editing program.”

Vegas started out as an audio editor/multitrack program so you can fix a lot of things in it.

    “You can add an compression”

Vegas has several different compressors built into it.
    Pick one and start experimenting.
