Multicam simulation with Vegas 9 and pan/crop
I’m working on editing a recording I made of a live performance of a small band in an outdoor bandstand. While I was getting the files ready, I noticed that some of the footage is kind of boring – wide shots of the band on stage,
Is it possible to add 2 or 3 video tracks to the timeline, then copy a section of the video to each track as a subclip, with different pan and zoom settings on each track, then use the multi-camera tool to switch between different zoomed-in sections of the band as if they were shot on separate cameras?
I think it should work as long as I’m careful not to zoom in too close and don’t create digital zoom artifacts – the original video is from a Canon HV30 in 24p mode, so as long as the zoom isn’t too tight it should look acceptable for output to 480-line DVD. -

What your saying will work, to a degree, the angle will still be the same though, still better that static shots. You could take sections where you cant see people singing, so sync isn’t relevent, that you could slow down some good motion shots to piece in to make it more exciting. Effects on some small clips here and there can help too, just don’t over do it. I would stay away from transitions. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

I also have a quick question about selecting a loop in the clip – is there a keyboard shortcut to select the in and out points of the loop? Dragging the markers on the top of the timeline is kind of imprecise.
