New video card, won’t capture
I just got a new computer, it’s running XP and my son installed a Syba SD-NEC-4f video card. When I go to capture in Vegas 8, it does not recognize the camera, can’t see it.
I’ve been trolling the forums looking for help, but haven’t been able to find an answer.

Apparently that video card has a firewire port on it so the next question is what make/model is the camera?
Did you try a different firewire cable?
Did you try a different camera?
Does the camera work on another computer? -
And do you have any other Firewire ports being used on this card? With only a 1 controller chip, capturing DV or any video would be a challenge.

OK, I’ve been troubleshooting. I got the computer to see the card, but only after restarting. It recognizes the 1394 device.To do that, I need to restart the computer, then I open a shortcut to Add Hardware. It finds the 1394 device, then recognizes the camera. I begin to capture and it will capture for a couple seconds and stop. This is true in Vegas and Windows Movie Maker. This is the same card that was in my last computer that was running Vista, I’m running XP now.

Try a different Firewire card is all I can suggest. Hardware does go bad and sometimes it’s just one thing that won’t work.
